One of the most dramatic educational experiences during my first session in the House was the day that Dr. Steve Murdock from the University of Texas San Antonio, shared a demographic projection for the state. Below you will find the link to this presentation. I hope you find the information challenging and informative.

TRS / ERS Called to Divest funds from Iran
Back in Austin, Governor Perry sent a letter on September 25th, to the chairs of both the Employee Retirement System of Texas and the Teacher Retirement System of Texas to begin the divestment of ERS and TRS funds with companies that do business with Iran. As Governor Perry stated in his letter, Iran "is an epicenter for terrorist activity, having provided a safe haven, training and equipment to Al Qaeda." With the world's tenth largest economy, Texas has the economic clout to set an example for other states and businesses in similar situations. The Governor has also asked that other large state investment funds begin to divest as well. Unified, we can send a message, loud and clear, that Texas will not do business with those who seek to harm our fellow Americans. Governor Perry intends to ask other Governors to join him in this action.
Speaker Craddick visits Tarrant County Republicans
Locally, Speaker Tom Craddick paid a visit to Tarrant County on Tuesday, September 25th. His message was one of unity within the Republican Party, in order to ensure that we remain the majority party in the House. Republicans have accomplished a lot since winning the majority, including giving more control to local governments, fixing school finance, fighting for traditional family values, and passing stronger child sexual predator laws. How quickly we forget that when Craddick first became Speaker of the House, Texas was facing a ten billion dollar deficit. In 2007, Texas will have a five billion dollar surplus. However, our fight is not over. There are still many areas in Texas that require our attention, and Republicans must unite and support each other through next year so that we may continue to improve this great state.

It's a Family Thing
Most of you are aware of the sacrifices that the family makes during session. You cannot serve without the full support of the family. As a family we are truly honored to serve our area as well as the state. It's a difficult but extremely rewarding opportunity. The education that the kids have seen and experienced is beyond anything they could learn in the classroom.

Texas State Representative Kelly Hancock Biography
Kelly Hancock’s commitment to serving began just as he and Robin started their family. A leader with a positive, “can do” attitude, Hancock made the decision to run for the Birdville School Board shortly after the birth of their first child Chloe. After graduating from Baylor University, Hancock returned to Tarrant County and immediately began serving in the community through civic and religious organizations. Hancock has received recognition for business as recipient of the Tarrant Business Press “Top 40 under 40” and Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce “Emerging Business”.
Hancock’s first political victory resulted in thirteen years in education. As education found abundant headline space during the special sessions of the 79th Legislature, Hancock’s successful experience at the local level catapulted his name to the top of the list to fill the House of Representative seat previously occupied by Representative Bill Carter and Representative Bob Griggs. In a crowded 2006 primary race Hancock shocked many in the political arena by winning a four candidate race without a runoff before completing the general election where he comfortably defeated his opponents.
